There is a dearth of such books that so-well encapsulates the rapidly-growing and exciting field of brain stimulation. Irving Reti’s textbook is a good introduction to the field for any psychiatrist or neurologist, but also serves as an up-to-date and in-depth reference for the specialist. The chapters are written by experts in their respective fields. The gamut of brain stimulation modalities and techniques are explored in detail in this book, supported by relevant reviews of the existing literature. The basic science of each methodology is very well-described and excellently-illustrated. It is an outstanding textbook—I highly recommend it!

Essential reading for psychiatrists, highly recommended for other physicians, therapists and anyone seeking a comprehensive and thoughtful guide to the practice and science of methods of brain stimulation.

This is an authoritative, well-written and highly useful summary of this rapidly growing field. Practitioners of ECT and TMS will find it useful as a reference, and researchers will find it useful as a good source of helpful reviews of basic techniques and underlying physiology. Chapters in key areas are authored by the many of the pioneers who have developed these new technologies. Anybody entering the field of brain stimulation should find this volume to be an excellent introduction.
