A Charming and Enjoyable Read

I started and finished 'Fat Chance' this weekend (It is notable that that the newest season of House of Cards was just released - tough competition!!) Finishing the book rather than binge watching Netflix was an easy decision as I quickly became invested in Joanie, Sam, Rob and - of course - Claire. I read quite a bit - typically one or two books each week - and give 'Fat Chance' 5 enthusiastic stars. The book is funny, surprising and well-told. If you're looking to get lost in a smart story with memorable characters search no further! (Here's hoping 'Fatter Chance' and 'Fattest Chance' are in the works...)

Move over Jonathan Tropper! Orenstein's sweet and sassy romp through upper middle class Jewish suburbia is a joy. Her characters are funny, earnest, and exasperating. You'll be rooting for Claire, the zaftig heroine, from the moment she sinks her teeth into that first jelly doughnut! We all need a friend like Claire.

Claire is definitely someone with whom you would like to break bread, or more appropriately, share coffee and doughnuts. About the Author
Sana Loue is Professor of Epidemiology and Director of the Center for Minority Public Health at Case Western Reserve University. She also holds appointments in the Departments of Bioethics, Psychiatry, and Global Health. Loue is the author of more than a dozen books on gender, ethnicity, immigration, and health. Over a two-year period, the author and her research team followed the lives of fifty-three Puerto Rican women living with severe mental illness as they coped with daily challenges in the areas of family, romantic relationships, employment, social services, substance use, and health care. The team interviewed the women and shadowed them at their homes, churches, schools, physicians' offices, family events, and other occasions in order to understand how their mental illness, their gender, their language, and their culture affected their relationships with others, their understandings of their own situations, and their hopes for themselves and their families.

Beautiful detail and accurately described,

I love the intricate detail this book goes into and the fact that it doesn't go straight from basic shapes into that detail. there are multiple steps between the first visualization to the completed drawing which in my opinion helps the less advanced artist to pick up the drawing and the drawing techniques used. I bought this for my sister in law who loves animals and she was delighted. The books quality was also very high. The binding was tight and it's a nicely done hardcover. I think it will stand the test of time well which isn't all that common today. I'm very happy with this purchase and would recommend it to my friends and family.

This was not a book....

No it was not a book, but the finale installation of a series. It seems to be all of the rage right now, write a few pages, then publish. A throw back if you will to the serial stories in ladies magazines a precursor to soap operas.

There is nothing wrong with a series. IF it stated clearly that is what it is. I'm sorry, but 27 pages is not a book. It is an installment, and should be noted as such. Amazon would be smart to start selling these under that heading.

Now to this work. From what I read, it seems that the story was getting it's wrap up.... Or was it? Apparently another "book" is in the making (oh goodie!) So, no, the story has not finished, there needs to be more income from incomplete work to be made!

The characters were developed as far as I could see, and that isn't very much considering there were only 27pages of material. You really needed to read from the start of the series. So be prepared to pay for each installment.

Personally, I would pass it up, series like this are a pain in the
A$$.

Simply amazing! It was an honest to goodness non existent stepbrotherly/stepsisterly connection from start to finish. Nicely written, happily ever after love story with a wonderful baby, wonderful parents!
